What size speakers are in the back of an 83 Celica GTS. 5x7 or 4x6.

I am not sure if you mean the coupe or liftback.

Crutchfield claims that they are 4 inch in both application, but we all know that is not right. I don't remember what teh coupe used, it might have been 4 inch, as they claim. The hatch, on the other hand, uses a funny size, but the closest fit is a 4X6 speaker.

There used to be an OEM replacement for these, but I don't see those around too much.

Thanks, It is a liftback. I have 4x6's and they are too small and 5x7's are to big. It's a special 4x6 with a metal flange around it. Thanks for the info. I needed it.

I know what you are talking about. The exact same thing happened to me and my celica 82 XT hatchback. I went out and got myself some 6 by 4's. but they where too small. But when i returned them and got some 7 by 5's but they where too big. I dont know what i am going to do. Might have to make a custom mount or something. let me know what you do with yours.

You might have to search to find the right ones you need. The 4x6 speakers you need have a large metal flange all the way around them. The only 2 companies I know that make them are pioneer and sony. I found a pair over the weekend at Best Buy. Tell the salesperson just what type mounting problem you are having and they will know what speakers your talking about.

What did you eventually buy to fit the rear speaker opening? It measures 5"x6.75". I was getting ready to order all around replacements:
3" diam. for the front
5"x7" for rear (I hoped it just might fit the opening-better check that)
one front woofer (if i can find a small one to fit)

LET ME KNOW, thanks-Bucky
