I have a 1983 Supra that runs poorly when the engine light is on. The engine light may be on for a split second or may stay on longer. When the light is on intermittently the car jerks real bad is very hard to drive. If the light is on for a period of time the car is drivable but has low power and will not excelerate. I can keep it going when the light stays on by keeping the rpm around 2000. It may die when I stop, but I can restart it and the light may be on or it may be off. It does it when the engine is cold or hot, in hot or cold weather. I haven't been able to tie the engine light coming on to any specific event. I took the car to a Toyota dealer who replaced the oxygen sensor and igniter. After a month the problem came back. It has been over 10 years that the car has had this intermittent problem.
